The six-city Singapore Education Roadshow came to end in Delhi recently. The fair witnessed as many as 20 institutes taking part from the island country. Said Ken neth Lim, Area Director, Northern India, Singapore Tourism, Board, "Singapore offers a global education in a cosmopolitan environment within an Asian setting. Not only we have offshore campuses of foreign universities like INSEAD France and The fair witnessed as many as 20 institutes taking part from the island country Chicago University, US but our public and polytechnic schools have forged international ties as well." If they are not reasons enough, then consider this. Singapore, which currently has more than 70,000 international countries from 70 countries, is aiming to host an international student population of 150,000 by 2015. India is among the top five countries to have chosen Singapore for higher education, according to Lim. Cultural and physical affinity lends a comfort fac tor. Further, most institutes recognise the CBSE and ICSE exams and admission is based on the applicant's Class XII results. What's more, the Singapore Government gives a grant of up to 80 per cent in the tuition fee to foreign students at all public and polytechnic institutes.

A few of the popular institutes present at this twoday event included National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Management University (SMU), Nanyang Technological University, PSB Academy and many more. The University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney that launched its first offshore campus in Singapore recently plans to set its academic session rolling from August next year. Informed Juliana Chan, Deputy Di rector, Student Recruitment and Admissions, UNSW, "Singapore is projected as the next educational hub in the South Asian region. Moreover we see India as a huge market for potential students.'' Another tempting factor to chose Singapore is the presence of over 7000 MNCs in the country that serve as a launch pad to global careers for many like Projjal Ghatak, a third year student in the School of Information Systems, SMU. "I found the Indian pedagogy too textheavy whereas the SMU style is based on interactivelearning. My internship with two companies has exposed me to a global perspective of management and I feel my training at an institute like SMU will act as a spring board for an international profession."
