Keep cool, plan ahead for pre-boards
By sachiv, Section Success Tips
With pre-boards and rehearsal exams all set to start soon in city schools, anxiety and apprehensions have started gripping the minds of the board-takers. Pre-board exams are usually tougher to crack than the finals, so kids are more tense. However, counsellors say there is enough time to improve performance.
``Only those who fear failure will fear exams. There is nothing to worry about if kids have prepared well,'' says Etishree Bhati, counsellor at DPS, RK Puram. She adds: ``The high scheme of marking in pre-boards worries kids but they should understand that if they haven't performed well in them, they have sufficient time to prepare for the finals.'' Students should concentrate more on finishing their lessons on time than worry about the results. Plan and prioritise, say counsellors. ``One should plan and revise lessons on priority basis and should not be worried about the results. It is important to take pre-boards seriously but at the same time, one should understand that this is not a do-ordie situation as there still are a couple of months left before the final exams,'' says Vijay Sehgal, a counsellor. Interaction with parents on a personal level is also an important motivation for the kids. Counsellor Geetanjali Kumar feels that the fear of failure is very acute among students as they also need to cope with the parent's expectations and peer pressure.
``Parents have a tendency to exaggerate the importance of pre-boards. Instead of adding up to the pressure of kids by telling them about their expectations and comparing them with their peers, they should find out innovative ways to help the kids learn the lessons fast. Parental support always boost the confidence of the kids,'' says Kumar.
