Hello

I am going to be a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Computer Applications next year. What are the options available to me to become an Information Technology (IT) professional?

Computer systems analysts, database administrators, networking and computer scientists are among the fastest growing jobs and will continue to be so for many years to come. This is because the IT sector continues to expand and, so, there will be a continuing need to build skills in these areas. Most IT companies look for BCAs, MCAs or those with degrees in Computer/ Information Science or other technical disciplines. Many companies also hire graduates and postgraduates with the required computing skills and knowledge of computing programmes such as Java, C, C++, Oracle, SQL,SAP, Corba and COM/DOM, and others like Visual Basic, Developer2000 and Active Server pages.

After graduation in Computer Science and Ap plication, you may do a three-year MCA programme, or take up any of these programmes or certification courses offered by companies like Oracle or Microsoft available at authorised training centres like NIIT and Aptech. Some skills available through such centres include networking, database administration, communication protocols and so on. There are also several courses in different network technologies and communications protocols.
