career prospects and list for the top colleges for the course of Masters in accessory design
By Unregistered Visitor, Section Schools and Colleges
I am interested in pursuing a Masters in accessory design. Please provide a list of the top colleges for the course and the career prospects after this course.
A. Fashion accessory designers work as in-house or freelance crafts persons. Large firms employ staff designers or more frequently, commission freelance designers, while small workshops usually work on orders from specific fashion houses, wholesalers or retail outlets. Fabricators working on their own design a limited range of special order accessories and then set out to find interested buyers. Whatever the method, a flair for anticipating what is going to be popular combined with some luck in making contact with the right firm at the right time, is the requisite for success. Very few fashion schools in the country offer PG courses in accessory designing. The National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (www.nid.edu) offers Lifestyle Accessory Design under their PG Diploma in Textile, Apparel and Accessory Design (two and a half years). NID also offers one-year fellowships wherein selected candidates are offered a stipend of Rs 8000 per month. The Apeejay Institute of Design, New Delhi (www.apeejay.edu) offers evening courses in Jewellery and Accessory Design.
You also have the option to focus on a single accessory line and take up a specialist course in your chosen area. The entire spectrum of accessories includes precious and costume jewellery, leather goods (including belts, buckles, buttons, handbags, gloves), glass and mixed medium products, footwear, watches, scarves, giftware, tableware, silverware, other lifestyle products.
