Children's Creativity Festival On Children's Day On November 14
By Leo11, Section Events
These russian children like stories of Kipling's Mowgli, Tagore's poetry and Hrithik's Ek pal ka jeena, and mind you - no translators needed.
A delegation f 14 Hindi speaking Russian students and four teachers are in the Capital to participate in the Children's Creativity Festival on Children's Day on November 14. The students, all below 15, have studied the national language from the first to the eleventh standards in their schools in Moscow and Kineshma, a town on the bank of the Volga. And, their wish list is predictably endless Hindi films, Taj Mahal, Diwali and so on - besides visits to famous historical monuments in Agra and Jaipur during their 10-day visit. Alissa, 11, is following on the footsteps of her mother who had also studied at Moscow's Hindi Boarding School No. 19.
"Mujhe mowgli ki kahani bahut acchi lagti hain (I like the stories of Mowgli)," said Alissa about Rudyard Kipling's famous creations. Having studied India's culture and traditions, the students arrived in the subcontinent not as strangers, almost like Indians and at ease with Rabindranath Tagore's poetry to Hrithik Roshan's Ek pal ka jeena.
Their teachers, a cheerful lot, were no different either While Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee found favour with her pupils, English teacher Poletaeva still admires legends like Raj Kapoor and Saadhna. "The children are eager to celebrate Diwali with fireworks and sweets. They know a lot about the festival and would get to experience it," said Poletaeva. Marina, another 14-yearold, when asked what she was looking forward to seeing during her visit, said: "We have a big picture of the Taj Mahal in our school in Moscow. It would be great to be there standing next to it." Ekaterina, 14, president of the school's Indo-Russian Friendship Club cannot wait to see her pen pal in Delhi who she has been writing to for the last three years, while 12-year-old Sasha wants to take back pictures for her younger sister who could not come with her. "We want to make friends here and practise our Hindi. We want to return with unforgettable impressions of India. Not to forget, we also want to apply henna on our hands," said Ekaterina.
