By himanshu, Section Coaching Tutions
`Special discounts for early birds',`Comprehensive shortcut methods to success', `Special question bank' these one liner advertisements may not make any sense to you. But they surely do to over three lakh aspiring engineers and doctors across the city who will be appearing for a number of competitive exams which started from this month.
Coaching institutes of all shapes and sizes are leaving no stones unturned to lure these aspirants with crash courses of 150 to 300 hours for the entrance tests. ``Generally, we charge around Rs 12,000 for 44 sessions for AIEEE and other engineering entrance exams. We are also providing a discount of Rs 1,000 to each student if they come in a group of seven or more,'' said Saurabh Malhotra, business development officer, Career Launcher. It was straightaway 20% less for the early birds even at Sahil Study Circle (SSC) for its crash courses for both medical and engineering entrance tests. ``We have been charging Rs 13,000 from the engineering aspirants for 280 hours and Rs 15,000 for those enrolling in crash course on pre-medical tests for 300 hours. However, for the early enrolments, we had offered 20% discounts,'' said Anil Gera, director, SSC.
Besides special discounts, these coaching institutes have been promising a host of other things. ``We provide a state-of-theart technology in our classrooms to help the students understand the concepts and clear their doubts. And these crash courses are taken by highly-experienced faculty members,'' said Richa Kapur, manager, Aakash Institute.
The institute charges around Rs 19,000 and Rs 17,000 for courses on pre-medical and engineering tests respectively, with duration of 250 hours each. Some like SSC, however, promise to teach ``short methods''. Added Gera, ``Though all these tests can't be cracked by short-cuts yet there are many areas in which students can succeed by applying short methods. However, we also provide them with comprehensive study material and question bank and conduct five-pattern tests on each entrances.'' If the coaching institutes are to be believed, there is already a maddening rush for these crash courses. ``The rush is three times higher as compared to last year,'' said Gera. Source-(TOI,3/4/07)
