Summit On Talent Management Held
By Gaurav, Section Training
The International Management Institute (IMI) organised a two-day IMI HR Summit on 'Managing Talent for Global Competitiveness: Issues and Challenges', here.
The summit was organised by the first PGDM (HR) batch, which attracted industry practitioners to share their experiences. The guest list comprised senior corporate captains like Rachna Bhanot, head (strategic HR), IBM Daksh; Sunita Majumdar, senior manager (HR), ITC Welcomgroup Hotels; Rahul Taneja, head (talent acquisition), Dell BPO and N.S. Iyer, chief manager HR and central functions, Asian Paints. The summit provided a platform to the students and faculty of IMI to interact with the guest speakers, who presented an insight on various facets of the theme. Dr C.S. Venkataratnam, director, IMI said, "Earlier, the IMI held its first HR Summit believing that a confluence of the best minds from the industry and academia was needed to bring the future HR challenges into focus. However, we realised at the first summit that human resource management is a challenging field. Thereby, we needed to host a series of discussions, that would lead to clarity and concrete ideas on how to manage the complexities that govern human behavior in an organisation, on a continuous basis."
Rachna Bhanot said, "The role of HR managers is changing from personnel to talent management, where they manage competency, succession and
performance." Chairperson of Teamlease Manish Sabarwal said, "People or talent build value for the company. They are important for corporate success, and are the primary source of 'intangible value'." The summit involved five panel discussions. It included themes like- managing attrition and aspirations, non-financial employee motivators, increasing employee engagement, employer branding, etc. It focussed on ways to motivate high performers and, thereby, making them more productive for an organisation. Moreover, in today's scenario, people are the biggest strength for an organisation and managing them well can provide a global unassailable competitive advantage. Source- Tribune, 08-09-07
