Nursery Admissions: - Queues end in confusion over criteria
By Dr arvind, Section Admission Notice ![]() Parents stand in queue to collect admission forms for nursery at R.S. Junior Moders School on Humayun Road on Saturday Long queues, traffic jams and hundreds of nervous parents marked the opening of the nursery admission season in Delhi on Saturday. Parents or their drivers queued up early for the forms. Many of them, however, came back more confused about the criteria for admission. Early birds "My driver reached at 4 am to queue up for the form but there were already 20 people ahead of him," said Naina Mago, mother of 3-year-old Giana. Modern School, Vasant Vihar, and Raghuvir Singh Junior Modern School on Humayun Road distributed forms on just one day on Saturday. "Everyone came to collect the forms today. Most of us had to wait for two hours. The school handled the rush well. But it would help if they make forms available online," said Siddhart Sirdana, parent. Close to 1,500 forms were sold at the Vasant Vihar branch, which has 120 nursery seats. Interaction or Interview? Interestingly, all parents have been allotted time for "interaction" by the school. "We have been allotted slots for interaction between November 17 and December 12," said Sanjay Singh (name changed). "We have to submit the form and then sit for interaction. I am afraid it will be an interview. Both parents have to be present," he said. What's the criteria? Meanwhile, many parents who got forms for Modern School, Vasant Vihar, were confused about the criteria of shortlisting applications. "The form does not mention the criteria being considered and how many points would be alloted to each criterion," said Vidya Shaw from Vasant Kunj. "One of the office people told me that the school will give 30 points for people living in Vasant Vihar but only 18 for Vasant Kunj residents. They should specify the points against the kilometres," said Shaw. Parents who were not from Delhi or had not studied in Delhi were also apprehensive about the criteria for selection. Principal Goldy Malhotra was not available for comment. HT
