Zakir Husain College to set up souvenir and stationery shop

Delhi University's Zakir Husain College, with a cherished history of more than 300 years as an institution of learning, plans to set up a souvenir and stationery shop on its premises.
"Every year a new batch of students who are unfamiliar with the college and its rich heritage are admitted. Souvenirs would play a major role in creating awareness and interest about the rich heritage of the college. Earlier known as Delhi Colle ge, the institution has been a bridge between Indian and Western culture," says Sarita Passey, a member of the media committee at the college. "Souvenirs reflecting intellectual developments in different spheres of activity, identified and collected across generations, would inculcate a sense of pride in our students that they belong to one of the oldest academic institutions of the country. The mementoes which the students would carry in the form of various gift items and accessories will help them cherish memories of their student life," Dr. Passey added.
Alongside the traditional items, T-shirts, sweat-shirts, caps, badges, scarves, ties and key-chains will also be made available for the students.
All items would carry the college name and logo and would be affordably priced. "The setting up of this shop is only a step towards the larger initiative of the college to create a sense of association and bonding in our students. This would also make them feel that they are members of a distinguished fraternity which cares for them," she explained. A six-member committee constituted by the Executive Council of Aligarh Muslim University has submitted its report to Vice-Chancellor P. K .Abdul Azis endorsing the proposal for establishment of a "Sir Syed International Centre for Advanced Study and Research" on the campus. "The main objective of this proposed centre would be to provide an environment suitable for academic research in all those aspects which were dear to the founder of the University, Sir Syed," said an official release. "The centre would invite scholars from India and abroad to deliver lectures or conduct research and to collaborate with other academic institutions for the dissemination of the promotion of the objectives of the centre. It is also suggested to institute fellowships and scholarships as may be decided by the centre," it added. Pearl School of Business in strategic partnership with Nottingham Trent University, UK, has announced the admission schedule for its MBA (executive) programme. The last date for receipt of applications for the programme that begins in August is July 31. The MBA (executive) programme is a three-semester programme with 15 months' course work followed by a three-month research/project. Source:The Hindu 26thJune2008.
