For those who have not made it to the college and course of their preference, there are still options waiting to be picked up. Students with lower scores can still take a seat in any of the colleges with reachable cut-offs.

There are many colleges in which students who have scored low can take admission, provided you they have been prudent and filled in most bubbles in the OMR form at the time of applying. As they rightly say -- `opportunity favours the prepared mind'.

Students with low scores from humanities stream can go in for history, political science, Hindi, Sanskrit, philosophy, English and BA programme in colleges like Deshbandhu, Kalindi (W), DCAC, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Dyal Singh, Janki Devi Memorial (W), Shivaji, PGDAV, Bhagini Nivedita (W), Gargi (W), Kamala Nehru (W), Lakshmi Bai (W), Moti Lal Nehru and Sri Aurobindo, which are located outside the campus.

The cut-offs for humanities courses in these colleges range primarily from 45-75%. Among the campus colleges, IP college and Daulat Ram offer philosophy at 70% and the history cut-off for SGTB Khalsa stands at a modest 64%. At the same time, Hindu and Kirori Mal are offering Hindi at 74% and 70% and Sanskrit at 50% and 54% respectively.

In fact, these low-profile courses offer enough opportunities to let students make the best of what is available. ``We have very competent faculties for all humanities courses. Our history students get a lot of opportunities and exposure through special seminars and heritage walks that we organise for them. The subject provides bright prospects for their future,'' says Jaswinder Singh, principal Khalsa College.

Talking about the avenues which open up through humanities, S R Arora, principal, Hans Raj College says, ``A bachelor's degree in Hindi gives students an opportunity in the field of journalism and translation. History, on the other hand, provides them a good platform to take competitive exams like the IAS.''

For BCom, BCom (H) or economics (H), the colleges where cut-offs are much lower are Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bhagini Nivedita, Ram Lal Anand, Shivaji, Kalindi (W), Shyam Lal, SPM, Ram Lal Anand (E), Deshbandhu (E), Dyal Singh (E), Shyam Lal (E), Zakir Husain (E) and Bharti college.

Many colleges are also offering science courses at modest cut-offs like Dyal Singh, Deshbandhu, Sri Aurobindo, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Shivaji, SGTB Khalsa, Maitreyi and Kalindi.
