Taking serious note of the dismal performance of government school students in Uttar Pradesh board exams this year, the state government has directed all the schools to adopt `monthly-exam scheme' to improve performance.

"It would now become mandatory for all the government-run schools to conduct exams on a monthly basis. The move intends to evaluate students regularly so that early changes can be made to improve their performance in UP board," Prabha Tripathi, state secondary education board secretary, told IANS.

Presently, the government schools conduct exams twice an academic session.

The pass percentage of state board class 10 exams (40.07) and the percentage for class 12 exams (65.05) were both lowest in the last six years, officials said.
