CM Inaugurates A New Government Polytechnic at Dwarka Sector-9

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday inaugurated a new Government polytechnic at Dwarka Sector-9. Speaking on this occasion, Dikshit said that expansion of technical education in Delhi has not only offered more employment opportunities but has also helped in developing self-confidence amongst students. They have become self-sufficient and their demand is going up in India and abroad.

Government's polytechnic and other technical institutes have been concentrating on skill development. The Government has been providing ample infrastructure facilities. She assured that there would be no dearth of funds for this purpose. She called upon students to make use of their training in making civic amenities better in the Capital-city.

Secretary of TTE G Narendra Kumar was also present on the occasion.

New polytechnic is spread over 33,000 sq meter area and it has cost Rs 20 crore to complete construction, which include Academic Building and Hostel apart from facilities for extra-curricular activities.

The building is environment and disabled-friendly. A digital library and modern labs and workshops would be developed in the polytechnic. The polytechnic is offering diploma in pharmacy; medical laboratory technology and information technology enabled services and management from this academic session ie 2008-09. Intake capacity is 60.

Dikshit further said that students are keen to get admission in polytechnics in Delhi. This year 48,000 students applied for Common Entrance Test for Government and Private Polytechnics. The number of applicants has increased by 20% than last year.

The Government has also opened second shift in two of its polytechnics ie Kasturba Women Polytechnic and Ambedkar Polytechnic, which have been awarded best polytechnics in northern region. These polytechnics have also ISO 9002 certification. The Government has launched a job portal and has been organising a Job Fair. It has also been providing scholarships to students belonging to economically weaker sections.
