Prometric, the organisation which conducted the online Common Admission Test (CAT) for entry into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), admitted on Monday that the format had been a failure. This was the first the test was being held online.
The IIMs too have admitted to errors. On three consecutive days, including Monday, there were reports of technical glitches at some centres which led to exams there being postponed. Candidates could not take the test at centres in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Ghaziabad due to computer malfunctioning. Samir Barua, director, IIM Ahmedabad, told HT: "We have failed to deliver an error-free system ... We feel responsible and will move forward (in correcting those errors)." Prometric Chief Operating Officer Charles Kernan said: "We weren't able to detect some viruses that intruded into the systems." Source: Hindustan Times Yes. The government has sought a report from the convener of the entrance test Satish Deodhar.
Glitches in the Common Admission Test online entrance test continued for the third straight day with at least 15 students failing to give their test at Management Education and Research Institute (MERI), D block, Janakpuri due to a server crash Other students complained of delays due to technical glitches. There were no reports of technical failure from the other six centers in Delhi. On Sunday, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Prometric - the official manager of CAT for IIMs - had shut down around 49 labs to fix the problems in the systems. But problems have continued. Megha Mahendru, who appeared for the test from Janakpuri in the morning slot, couldn't write her test. "As I clicked on the start buttonthescreendisplayedanerror message. The Prometric staff tried to re-start but failed. They have given me a ticket number andaskedmetocallthehelpline." Kunali Jawas, a B.tech student from Jhansi, faced a delay of 20 minutes. "When I started the test, the screen blanked out for sometime and then I restarted it. There were some students in my lab who couldn't write their test, so they started creating noise. All these problems along with the constant fear of system shutdown affected my concentration." Meanwhile, some students who missed their test on Saturday had been rescheduled for the test on Monday. The IIMs and Prometric had earlier said that those who missed the test would be reallotted a new date within 48 hours. Noopur Jain, a software engineer who missed her test from Delhi School of Professional Studies and Research, Rohini Phase III, on Saturday due to system failure was rescheduled to the Janakpuri centre on Monday. "I got a call from Prometric informing me about the centre and date." Her test though was disrupted a few times due to power cuts. But others like Priyanka Sharma and Nikita Jain were not so lucky. Jain, a third year B.com stu dent, received a call from Prometric about her reallot ted date but when she reached the centre she found her name was missing from the list. "I missed my test on Saturday and was reallotted today but since my name was not in the list I was sent back."
Sharma, a third year Delhi University student, who also missed her test on Saturday is worse off. "Even after 48 hours I have received no communication about re-allotment," she said.
