The South Campus of Delhi University is headed for massive infrastructure expansion plans in the next couple of years.A hostel each for girls and boys will soon come up on the campus.

The plans for building the girls' hostel and the boys' hostel have been approved by the Works Advisory Board headed by Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental.

"The girls' hostel will be a large one with a capacity of accommodating over 200 girls. It will be for under-graduate as well as post-graduate students. That way girls studying in South Campus colleges will also have a place to stay," said Dinesh Singh, Director of South Campus.

The construction of the girls' hostel is likely to start in November this year and it should be ready within a year. Also on the anvil is a 40-room guest house equipped with best facilities. The South Campus presently has two men's hostels and one women's hostel.

"We are also mooting the idea of a battery-operated bus that will start from the South Campus and connect the colleges in the vicinity to ferry students during morning and afternoon hours. We are talking to colleges about it so that they also bear some cost of this bus," Prof. Singh added.

Keeping in view the safety of students, especially girl students from the evening colleges, the University has deployed two security guards for constant patrolling on Benito Juarez Road, where the South Campus is located, between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on all days.
