Chances are your school has delayed its results.The Education Minister's recent tirade against admissions given on the basis of parents' professional and educational background has sent schools into salvage mode. Keen on staying on the government's good side, many institutions have voluntarily decided to change their criteria. This has led to a delay in results. Sample this: The Heritage School, Vasant Kunj and Ahlcon International School have postponed their first list -- scheduled on February 1 -- by two days and a week, respectively. The Srijan School, Model Town, on the other hand, has announced an indefinite delay. "We'd rather delay by two days than make a rushed change. We will follow the new policy properly," said Shashi Banerjee, principal, The Heritage School, Vasant Kunj, which had 15 points for parents' education. Hindustan Times was the first to report the government's bold but late action against schools following this criterion.
The profession and education criteria is perceived discriminatory as businessmen, housewives and lesser qualified parents tend to lose points to professionals. Gyan Bharti School and Bluebells School International were among the first schools asked by the Directorate of Education to delete the discriminatory criterion.
In fact, notices were being sent to schools even till Saturday, just two days before the first list was to be declared.
"Our staff is now scanning forms again. We are not sure if we will have to delay results. Though the intention is noble, parents will still be the losers. "Parents had applied according to the earlier criteria. This change at the eleventh hour has thrown everything out of order for them," said Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com, a website that guides parents on admissions.
